Nick's Announcement for a Second Term

December 30, 2024

From Press Release on October 28, 2024

Nick Foster, Council Member representing the Fourth Ward on Columbia’s City Council, announced today that he will run for a second term.

“While I came into the Council with a good understanding of city processes and how city government works, I have learned a lot in the last two and a half years,” said Foster. “That experience will be valuable to the community and to me as we address challenges as well as opportunities.”

Foster points to a number of city accomplishments, including the establishment of a Housing and Neighborhood Services Department and provision in the 2025 city budget for an Office of Violence Prevention.

“The Columbia City Council has taken important steps recently, acting on issues that have been under consideration for some time,” said Foster, “such as roll cart deployment, a short-term rental ordinance, and approval of water treatment plant upgrades”. Foster also noted the Safe Harbor ordinance. “This one really speaks to our values as a community,” he said.

“As a community we have more to do, like moving forward a new electric transmission line, increasing use of climate-friendly sources for power, addressing the city’s housing crisis and homelessness, and ensuring safe neighborhoods for everyone,” Foster said. “I want to represent Ward Four in doing that work.”

Foster is appreciative of constituents who share their perspectives on issues and city staff who aid in understanding processes and possibilities in the city. “I will continue to listen to every voice,” said Foster.
